What Is Ping?
Ping traditionally sends ICMP echo requests to measure round-trip time. Online ping test tools often use TCP or HTTP when ICMP is blocked.

How Ping Works
Classic ping counts ICMP replies. This tool opens HTTPS to your hostname and measures how long the HEAD response takes — host reachability test for web services.
Understanding Ping Results
You see latency in milliseconds, reachable vs unreachable, HTTP status when available, and a note that timing is HTTP-based (not ICMP).
What Is Latency?
Latency is delay — how long a packet (or HTTP request) takes to go and return. Lower is better for real-time apps.
What Is Packet Loss?
Packet loss means some ICMP echoes never return. This HTTP ping test does not measure ICMP loss — use OS ping or traceroute for that.
What Is Jitter?
Jitter is variation in latency over time. Gaming and VoIP suffer from high jitter. Run several tests or use our speed test jitter metric for broader checks.
